foundation for Lang’s best-selling book The Power of Pull: How Small Moves, Smartly Made, Can Set Big Things in Motion (co-written with Hagel and Brown and published by Basic Books in 2010), which calls on individuals and companies to make a radical break from the past to succeed in the digital era. Bloomberg Businessweek magazine calls The Power of Pull “this year’s must-read book on innovation.” The Economist describes it as “a book with a serious message.” And Strategy + Business magazine named it to its list of Best Business Books for 2010.
Lang was previously the long-running editor-in-chief of “the Rolls-Royce of management publications,” The McKinsey Quarterly. During his time at McKinsey Lang was the collaborating writer for the best-selling Net Gain and Net Worth, portions of which were awarded the McKinsey award for best article published in Harvard Business Review in 1999. He has written feature articles for HBR under his own byline in “Shaping Strategy in a World of Constant Disruption,” published in October, 2008, and “The Big Shift: Measuring the Forces of Change,” in July, 2009. Lang has been a blogger for Harvard Business Review and a columnist for The Deloitte Review, where he was editor-at-large. His by-line has also appeared in The Conference Board Review, The Washington Post, Change This, Fortune, Open Forum, and CNBC.
Lang holds an A.B. from Dartmouth College, an MFA from the Columbia School of the Arts, and an MBA from Columbia Business School. He lives with his wife, two children, and one nephew in Portland, OR.
Christian is the consummate sales professional. Since April 2010 he has been a Sales Specialist at THOMSON REUTERS in San Francisco, CA. Responsible for selling detailed BI SaaS platforms into Western Corporations. Sold Web Buzz which utilizes Crimson Hexagon’s social media monitoring and analysis technologies. Achieved 101% of FY10 quota by generating $350k in revenue. Key accounts include: Apollo Group, Starbucks, Dish Networks, Salesforce.com, Coinstar, Advent Software, Newmont Mining, Berkeley Research, JDSU, Quest Software; Zynga, Astellas, Maxim-IC, among others.
Before joining Thomson Reuters, Christian was Account Executive at GLOBAL CROSSING in San Francisco, where he was responsible for covering the Western Region selling fully managed (hardware- Cisco and software- Fluke) MPLS transport and transit. Christian has an excellent lead network including: data center, analysts, VAR’s, and local integrators. • Achieved 103% of FY09 quota by generating $1.2M in revenue. Key accounts included Cadence Design Systems, PMC-Sierra, DPR Construction and Friend Finder, among others.
Prior to that Christian was:
Broker /Sales Manager at MARCUS & MILLICHAP in San Francisco where he was promoted to sales manager within the first nine months, achieving 131% of FY08 quota generating $15M in revenue and 202% of FY07 quota generating $25M in revenue.
Managing Director Sales at GARTNER in San Francisco where he was promoted from Director of Business Development to Managing Director of Sales. Worked closely with marketing and product development to shape and launch Gartner Invest’s West Coast buy-side sales and marketing efforts, achieved 102% of FY06 quota by generating $1.1M in revenue. Key Accounts included: Francisco Partners, Silver Lake, Texas Pacific Group, Accel / KKR, KPCB, Sierra Ventures, APAX, IVP, FT Ventures, JMP Securities, VPVP; among others.
Soody Tronson, J.D. & M.S.
Soody is a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience combining law, science, engineering, and business management in start-ups and established environments.
She practiced law as IP Counsel at Silicon Valley offices of prominent national law firms and in-house at the Hewlett-Packard Company. Soody was General Counsel and Vice President of Intellectual Property at a successfully acquired medical device start-up company where she was responsible for all legal matters including regulatory, clinical trials, corporate transactions (e.g., acquisition, merger), manufacturing, licensing and partnering transactions, employment issues, and development of strategies for dispute resolution and litigation.
Before starting her legal career, she spent several years in the industry holding technical and management positions at companies such as Hewlett-Packard and Schering-Plough. Her extensive experience enables counseling of clients in the areas of life sciences, medical devices, and high technology. Based on the range of her experience she is well accustomed to challenges facing emerging as well as mature organizations.
In addition to her own private practice, Soody serves in Of Counsel capacity with other firms. She is on the advisory board of several organizations including, the Silicon Valley Chapter of the Licensing Executives Society (LES-SVC) and the Association for the Sports and Athlete Professionals. She instructs courses in IP and licensing at the University of California. She serves as a mentor at the Stanford Technology Venture Formation Program, is an advisor with Astia, and volunteers her services at local non-profit organizations. She is also an inventor on patent applications and issued patents. Soody holds a J.D. and M.S.; and is licensed to practice before the State of California and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
