Cybersecurity efforts hurt by lack of manpower

You would think with all the attention being paid to the issue of cybersecurity that it would be a growth industry.

And you would be wrong.

As we noted in our last newsletter, while a handful of companies in the industry are seeing brisk growth, the industry itself is growing at about 1 percent a year. Some of that can be attributed to security issue exhaustion and heavy competition a report issued by the Leviathan Group in February said another reason is the devastating lack of talent in the industry pool.

Leviathan’s report states, “With more than one million cybersecurity positions unfilled worldwide, currently-identified security needs couldn’t be met if every employee at GM, Costco, Home Depot, Delta, and Procter & Gamble became security experts tomorrow.”

According to a similar study by IASCA released in April, 82% of organizations expect a cyberattack, yet 35% are unable to fill open security jobs.

“The State of Cybersecurity study reveals a high-risk environment that is being made worse by the lack of skilled talent,” said Robert E Stroud, CGEIT, CRISC, international president of ISACA and vice president of strategy and innovation at CA Technologies. “ISACA is collaborating with industry and government to close this gap through resources designed specifically to meet the unique and complex requirements of the cybersecurity profession.”

If you belong to one of this companies in the 35 percent, might be time to give Eurocal Group a call. We have the talent you need.
